The town of Hayling Island contains the hamlets of East and West Hayling and lies within the Portsmouth and S.E. Hampshire region.

Hayling Island is a premier position for clean beaches and holds two blue flags and Tidy Britain seaside accolades; it is the premier location for some of the foremost sailing and windsurfing in the UK.

Hayling Island is a traditional coastal resort that has suffered as a result of the decline of the traditional seaside holiday.

Hayling Island Sailing Club enjoys a high reputation for its organisation of World and National Championships, Olympic trials and open events; the choice of sailing waters ensuring that, barring the most extreme weather conditions, events can be completed and enjoyed.

Hayling Island is surrounded by Chichester Harbour, Langstone Harbour and the Solent and is reached by a road bridge from Havant, with good road, motorway and rail connections.

The Island is also said to be one of the best Wind Surfing areas on the South Coast.

In the 1830s a guide to Hayling said ’such is the health of this sweet island that although a medical man resides here, his services are seldom in request’.

Hayling Island had a great sandy beach until recent years when it was manually filled with stones to stop it from washing away.

When you decide to travel to Hayling island then a great place to dwell would be Cockle Warren Cottage Hotel - it is pretty much on the sea front and you will be enveloped in the becharm of the cottage with the warm sea air rapping on your bedchamber windowpane.
