According to Simon Abrahams, Rackspace EMEA’s head of product marketing, their website will work to provide helpful information to everyone who may be interested in computing as a service - a term which he used to refer to cloud-hosted servers. Abrahams added that the technology was beyond software as a service. He noted that there is a global trend in the works as more and more companies are starting to outgrow the idea that enterprises have to be run from dedicated servers in order to succeed.

Abrahams also noted that the website is not going to be used as a marketing tool for the Rackspace company and its brand of services. While the site will be under Rackspace, it will not be used to sell the company’s services and products. Rackspace already has a site that functions for that purpose, he said. The new website is going to be broader and he hopes that it will also earn contributions from other companies in the industry.

The website, Abrahams said, was developed and launch in order to fulfil a need for sufficient information on the technologies associated with cloud services. There’s a demand for education on cloud computing. All you need to do is go to events such as CloudCamp to find out just how many people are interested in learning more about this technology.

Looks like Microsoft Great Plains becomes more and more popular, partly because of Microsoft muscles behind it. Now it is targeted to the whole spectrum of horizontal and vertical market clientele. Small companies use Small Business Manager (which is based on the same technology - Great Plains Dexterity dictionary and runtime), Great Plains Standard on MSDE is for small to midsize clients, and then Great Plains serves the rest of the market up to big corporations.

Great Plains Dexterity - is proprietary programming language and technology, designed back to earlier 1990th with the goal to build platform independent graphical accounting package - Great Plains Dynamics. Dexterity Forms - if you like VBA and are comfortable to do all the business logic in VBA - you can use Dexterity as new forms creator/editor. This is OK - but you have to purchase VBA/Modifier and Customization Site Enabler from MBS.

Some restrictions. Great Plains is actually integration of multiple dictionaries: DYNAMICS.DIC, ADVSECUR.DIC, EXP1493.DIC, etc. In your Dexterity customization you can deal with one dictionary - DYNAMICS.DIC. If you need cross dictionaries customization - consider using SQL Stored Procs for crossing dictionary borders and pulling data/making changes in the other dictionary..
