Multi-User Touch Screen from Displax
With the new multi-touch skin from a company in
The multi-touch skin is made of polymer and is touted to be thinner than paper. When affixed to any flat surface, it turns the surface into a touch screen. The plastic film uses a web of wires embedded in the surface, which recognises touch on the screen. The film registers close to 16 touches on a 50-inch screen. When any part of the plastic film is touched, the computer is informed of the location for further processing.
The multi-touch skin is expected to gain huge popularity because touch screen is the latest fad these days with the advantage that it dispenses with keys and lets the user easily use the screen to operate a device. Most of the devices made by Apple are touch screen usable and so are the smart-phones, which are becoming the rage now.
However, up until now users could use touch screen operations only with a device specifically designed for this purpose. But with the multi touch skin, anyone can turn a device with keyboard operation into a touch screen device by simply affixing the skin atop the screen.
It can be used on any surface, which is diagonally 7 inches to 119 inches approximately. The technology will come in handy where interactive display is used, for instance in shop windows or even on a traditional LCD monitor, even laptop screens. Multiple users can then access the background processes simultaneously.
A useful addition to any hand-held mobile device, and going by trends something that will catch on and only add to the growing popularity of using mobile broadband.
