Domain Registration: Register Your Domain but Don’t Rush Into a Hosting Package

Filed under: World Wide Web Resources — admin @ 8:13 pm

One of the first things that a new business needs to do is establish a web presence. That usually starts with registering a domain name and then purchasing a hosting package. Many of the domain registrars also provide hosting and they should, it is logical to pair these services. These registrars almost always create an attractive hosting + domain registration package and new businesses almost always go for it. There is nothing wrong with offering these packages and there is usually nothing wrong with the services themselves. The problem is buying into something before you know what you really need. These packages are, in most cases, very basic in their capabilities. Most will not support any type of database programming. This lack of functionality will drastically limit what you can do with your new site. I have some suggestions for the new businesses out there.

  1. Register your domain but don’t commit to a hosting package. This is very important because until you have received the advice of the person or company developing your web site you could be wasting your money.
  2. Enlist the services of a freelance web developer or a local web development company. This will prove to be a valuable step in establishing your web presence. The freelance web developers tend to be much less expensive than development companies. They are used to getting new companies up and running quickly.
  3. Allow your developer to secure hosting and work it into the cost of your web site. Web developers almost always have 1 or 2 hosting companies that they know are reliable. This can also be beneficial because the new hosting can be used for development under a different domain name. Web hosting companies provide a temporary URL that can be used until you are ready to go live with your site.

The bottom line is to check with your web developer before you commit to anything. If you enlist the services of a good developer/designer you will not have a problem securing exactly what you need for your web site.

Blaze A Trail :With the Help of a Life Coach

Filed under: World Wide Web Resources — admin @ 6:09 pm

One of my favorite quotes comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson and reads:
“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”

Exactly a year ago this month I had that quote in mind and decided it I was ready to move toward some major changes in my life. As a creative person, I live for self-expression and my medium is the written word. However, the scope of my vision for transitioning from J-O-B holder to professional scribe is BIG - too big to shoulder alone. That is a lot for a woman from a working class background with no close examples of visionaries in my life to carry alone. I grew up among those who had talents, abilities and dreams but relegated their entrepreneurial spirits to the realms of foolishness. Dreams and visions, bent by the demands of bills and folded into the landlord’s wallet, were reformed into fantasies - daydreams for mental respites at mid-morning snack and 2 pm energy deficits.

I came to a point, as I move toward my 4th decade on the planet, where I’d become weary of chasing after what was passing for life. Deep in silent repose, reclining in the back of my mind were dreams deferred. Those dreams are real things. They reside in the very grooves of your brain and dance between the beats of your heart. For the most part, I ignored them but sometimes I’d find while sitting in my cube, the computer screen would start to float and tears would streak down my cheeks. Some part of me was thinking about my deferred dreams even if my mind was not engaged.

I realized, if intended to take Emerson’s advice and “leave a trail”, I would need to shake off doing things the way I’ve always done them. I am not obligated to do what I’ve always done. Once I made the decision that I have a say in the matter of my life, providence showed up. No matter what one’s back ground, mental or emotional inheritance, there is always a CHOICE. With that choice, I knew I would need assistance in making the necessary adjustments to set the stage.

I felt it would be best to have an unbiased voice to provide guidance. I did not want the unavoidable judgment that comes with turning to a relative or a close friend. It’s common knowledge that those closest to you, mostly with good intentions, might hinder your progress with their preconceived ideas. And you know what they say the road to hell is paved with….

I’d heard of life coaches and did a little research online to get a clearer idea of what they do. It didn’t take long to find the person I needed. Once your mind is made up destiny awakes! I reviewed coaching websites educated myself. Most coaches focus on people in particular careers and life situations. It’s useful to take a handful of coaches up on their complimentary consultations. I was selective about who I decided to contact.

I conversed with a few people but I was most attracted to the person who is now my life & creativity coach. She is a great fit for me because she specialized in working with the artistically inclined and the late bloomer - or as she calls us, “tortoises”. Those two features hit directly upon what want to work on. I was happy and after speaking with her I knew she was the right one for me and my objectives.

Thanks to the support of my coach, I feel I have made more personal strides over the course of this year than I would have made alone. Having a sounding board and having an unbiased ear to whom I can be accountable has added value to my life. That value has come in the form of greater confidence and clarity of purpose. In the act of enlisting the aid of a coach, I broke a strangling lifelong habit - not asking for help when I KNOW I need it.

Like me, maybe you also are accustomed to handling things yourself. Maybe you’ve not had anyone else you could count on. A coach is not a therapist or a counselor. He isn’t there to slap your hand but to remind you what your hands can do. The coach isn’t there to chastise you but to encourage you. The coach isn’t there to tell you what to do, but to help you determine a course of action. You can lean on your coach but a good coach won’t allow you to lay on them!

The coach is there to accomplish things WITH you not do them for you. He/she will celebrate your victories with you. I have this knowledge through my experience. Personal responsibility is stressed. If you aren’t ready for that, you aren’t yet ready for coaching.

I thank God I had the courage to take this step toward my future. I thank Him most that I have someone to give me that needed push when courage fails. So in all this, I feel I am on the path to making Emerson’s quote a reality in my life. By working with someone who helps me honor my uniqueness, I find more reasons every day to revel in it.

Mr. Emerson, just call me a trailblazer!

Improve Home With Secured Loans, Save Pocket From Getting Hole

Filed under: World Wide Web Resources — admin @ 10:13 pm

Are you thinking of availing a home improvement loan? But do not want to spend extra money for that? In that case, secured home improvement loans can be profitable for you.

As the name refers, secured home improvement loans are secured on a security. So, to avail a secured home improvement loan, you will have to pledge some property as security. It could be any valuable objects, such as home, automobile, saving accounts etc. The amount, offered with these loans is ranged from £ 5,000 to £ 75,000 and its repayment period varies from 5-25 years. But, normally the determination of repayment period depends on the loan amount, income and the value of equity in the property.

You may think about how a secured home improvement loan can save your money? The answer is very simple. Since these loans are secured on borrowers’ property, so the risk of lending money becomes less. And for that, lenders do not hesitate to provide secured home improvement loans at lower interest rate. Hence, you can improve your home and at the same time save your pocket from spending extra cash.

However, various purposes-major or minor can be fulfilled with secured home improvement loans. Some of them are as follows:

• Adding new rooms and expands home
• Landscaping garden
• Home renovation, repair
• Refurnishing home
• Making garage and many more.

Secured home improvement loans are also available for the people with bad credit history. People like CCJ’s, IVA’s, bankruptcy, arrears, and default have bad credit score. Generally, availing any sort of loan is tougher for them. But, they can easily apply for secured home improvement loans. As these loans are obtainable against collateral, thus lenders provide these loans to all kinds of borrowers. Only one has to know what his credit score is.

At the same time, you should keep in your mind what would be the effect, if you cannot repay the amount. Do not forget, you are using your property for getting these loans. Thus, in case you cannot repay the amount then your collateral will be seized by the lender. So, always ask for the amount that you are capable to pay off. And do check your financial capacity before going for a secured home improvement loan.

Many of us do not prefer to spend extra money for home improvement purposes. Secured home improvement loans are especially customized for them. These loans are available against collateral. And as the presence of collateral covers the risk of lending money, thus a borrower can easily get these loans at lower interest rate.

Business Startup Funding - Are You Ready?

Filed under: World Wide Web Resources — admin @ 8:47 pm

Business startup funding is always a worry. Do I have enough money to start? Can I quit my job to concentrate full time? Will I be able to cover my monthly expenses?

When the time comes to actually launch your business you must have done your homework regarding your business startup funding needs. You need to be prepared so that if the opportunity to accelerate your launch presents itself, you’re ready.

Assess Your Personal Finances

Take out your checkbook and credit card statements and review all of your personal expenses. Find all the frills and eliminate them. It’s tough to do, but if you’re really committed to getting this business of the ground you need to reduce your personal expenses.

Taking control of your business startup funding doesn’t mean you have to quit enjoying life. You just have to prioritize for now. Skip the night show and catch a matinee instead. If you’re going out for dinner, clip a 2 for 1 coupon or go to the early bird. Hold off on that tropical vacation for one year.

Evaluate Your Business Expenses

Another element of business startup funding is your minimum business expenses. Luckily, computer consulting is not a capital intense venture. You will have business expenses to cover though, so you must analyze what those are and figure them into your business startup funding needs.

Do the Math

Total up your personal and business monthly expenses. To launch a successful business you need to have at least six months of cash in the bank OR an alternative source of affordable capital. Many people won’t have 6 months cash to cover their business startup funding needs. If this is you, you will need to find, or keep, a job.

Limit the job to 15 - 20 hours per week so you leave enough time to concentrate on building your business. Whether it’s teaching some computer courses at the college or working at an electronics store, you have to be bringing is some reliable income. This reliable income will give you the cushion you need to spend time building your client base.

Securing adequate business startup funding is one of the most challenging aspects of launching a small business. You don’t want to minimize its importance though. Inadequate business startup funding is at the root of many business failures.

The Bottom Line on Business Startup Funding

Do what you need to do now, in order to do what you want to do in the future. Having enough business startup funding means conserving your cash mercilessly. You have to know where your money is going and have enough to cover 6 months of expenses. If your business startup funding is a little short, a part time job is often the most practical means of securing the funding you need.

Accepting Checks in Your Business Virtually Risk Free

Filed under: World Wide Web Resources — admin @ 9:04 am

Most businesses accept checks as form of payment for goods and services. However, accepting checks can be a risky endeavor if your company doesn’t follow good policies and procedures for preventing loss from bad checks. In fact, the reason some businesses do not accept checks is because of a history excessive “bad checks” that costs their business to much money and aggravation, preferring to accept only cash and credit cards. Whether a business currently accepts checks or not, they can minimize the cost of accepting checks to less than 1%, which is less than half the 2% to 3% cost of credit card processing. The only payment method cheaper is accepting cash.

Outlined below are tips for formulating your virtually risk free policies and procedures for accepting checks. For the purposes of this article, “virtually risk free” is defined as achieving a cost to accept checks of 1% or less. Not all items will apply to all businesses but if you determine that accepting checks in your business is “high-risk”, a more stringent program using more of these tips is needed. In any case, your policy needs to be in writing, distributed to all employees, and followed without exception.

1. Clearly defines acceptable forms of ID, required information and dollar limits. Post these requirements where customers can see them at the point of sale.

2. The check-writer’s name and address should be pre-printed on the check. Ask for and write the phone number if it is not pre-printed on the check.

3. Make sure the written and numeral amounts correspond.

4. Watch the check-writer sign the check. If the name is illegible, have the customer print the name below.

5. Compare the signatures, photo and physical description from the ID with that of the check writer.

6. Verify that the ID is still valid! Check the driver’s license for signs of alteration or modification.

7. Most returned checks have low check numbers (100 to 500), which indicates a new account and therefore a more risky check, particularly for business or “dba” (doing business as) checks. Do not accept starter checks. Any number under 300 should be a “red flag” and require a manager’s approval for acceptance

8. Never take business checks from individuals unless you know the business and the individual.
Business checks are not presently eligible for electronic re-presentment. With available software, virtually anyone can produce a business check.

9. Do not accept checks with PO boxes…always get a street address for the check-writer.

10. Do not accept third party checks.

11. The four-digits following the magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) number at the bottom of the check should match the four-digit number at the top right hand of the check.

12. All checks, except government checks, should have a perforation along one side of the check.

13. Use a check verifications system. This form of protection should significantly reduce the volume of “less collectable” checks (those passed by check-writer’s with a history of passing bad checks).

14. Have a camera at the point of sale. Forgery, fraud and bad check-writers do not want their picture taken. A video camera conspicuously placed will deter most dishonest people.

15. Utilize a free check collection service for the fastest collection of those checks that do bounce to maximize.

Using a check collection service is critical to minimizing your costs. On average, 2 out of every 100 checks are going to bounce, when that happens, time is of the essence to recovering your money. Check collection services have the tools and expertise to collect on bad checks quickly, over 80% of the time for top providers, and their services are usually free to businesses as they make their income from collections fees allowed by each state.

When choosing a service, choose a free service and avoid the companies who offer “guaranteed” collections for a fee. The fee charged for the guarantee ends up being substantially more expensive than implementing a good check acceptance policy in conjunction with a reputable, free collection service. Also, choose a company with a good reputation for customer service. It is beneficial to know that your service provider will work with you when a special circumstances need to be considered for a particular collection. Finally, expect to maintain full control of your checks. Only hire a service that guarantees to return your checks to you at any time in the collections process.

CybrCollect is a free check collections service that meets these requirements and more. I recommend CybrCollect because:

1. Free service to businesses

2. Excellent Customer Service

3. Clients maintain full control of their checks

4. Best collections rate in the industry, over 80% of NSF checks collected within 30 days

5. Industry leading client website for 24/7 access to collections information

6. Exclusive “Executive Analysis Report” for determining true cost of accepting checks.

Help Your Work at Home Based Business with a Newsletter

Filed under: World Wide Web Resources — admin @ 7:48 am

There is so much competition on the Internet today that Web
site owners working online in home based businesses are
justifiably concerned that their Web site gets noticed among
the thousands of others. There are a number of things you
can do to set your Web site apart from other sites and
consequently get the necessary traffic to your site and make
the difference. One such idea is to provide a newsletter to
your subscribers.

Before you think of providing a newsletter, place yourself
in the potential subscribers place. What reason would you
sign up for a newsletter? Most people do not normally sign
up for newsletters if there is not something that the person
wants or needs. For example, if you provide access to a
business toolkit, e-book, free gift, or some other equally
tempting award, people will sign up to receive the
newsletter. Providing the hook, as it were, is only part of
the problem, you now need to reel them in.

Now here is the key. Once you have people signed up you want
them to stay signed up and not only receive the newsletter
but also read it. There are some people who will sign up for
a newsletter only to receive the freebies. Once they have
those, they subsequently unsubscribe. This is NOT what you
want to happen.

So, once people begin signing up you will need to make sure
the newsletter is professional and provides helpful and
relevant information for your particular market. If you are
providing this information people will continue reading it
and tell their friends about it, if not they will hit the
unsubscribe button and you will lose a potential customer.

Although setting up a newsletter might sound difficult to
you, it really is not and is something you can do in a
couple hours every week as long as you have decent writing
skills. Make sure you cover hot topics, give advice, and use
customer questions about your product, market and the like
to make up the newsletter.

Even if you do not have the writing skills, there are people
on the Internet who will, for a price, write for you. Or you
can get a newsletter software program that will guide you
through the process. Please note, this program does not
write the newsletters, that is still down to you, but it
will guide you in a logical process into writing a
professional newsletter.

Do not be afraid to look at other newsletters in your field
and see what makes them good or bad. From these you will be
able to set your own format and style that you are certain
will work. At the end of the day, you want your newsletter
to become very popular and in return direct more traffic to
your Web site each day. This is important for your revenues
because it has been proven that 70% of sales are made after
the third, fourth or fifth contact. If you are providing a
good newsletter with plugs for your services and products,
you will be sure to see a rise in traffic and purchases.

When it comes to actually distributing the newsletter, you
will want to have an automated subscribe and unsubscribe
program. This will allow people to sign up or asked to be
removed from the newsletter and it will automatically
happen. The last thing you want to do is spend your entire
day adding and removing email addresses. This is a waste of
time that is better used by you focusing on expanding your
business.

A Guide to Popular Wine Racks

Filed under: World Wide Web Resources — admin @ 1:47 am

Popular Wine Racks

Wine collecting and drinking is a hugely growing trend. In bygone years, wine appreciation used to be exclusively a man’s hobby, but nowadays, women are actually overtaking men when it comes to an interest in all things wine.

Wine racks are popular because wine isn’t just about the experience of imbibing the drink.

Wine bottles themselves are elegant and beautiful to look at, and the right wine rack can really add to the visual appreciation of your wine bottles as they await their opening day, whether in a cellar — or on display in your kitchen or living room.

Wine racks come in all shapes and sizes, and are constructed of different material. In short, it simply comes down to what your preferences are.

There are elegant metal wine racks, whether custom or not, wooden ones — and even sub variations of wood, such as pine, or cedar — or you can purchase racks that are built to be placed in wine cellars if you are a more serious collector.

A classy looking wine rack, in short, will add a great deal of sophistication and pleasure to your wine drinking experience, not only for you and your family, but for your guests as well….who will undoubtedly conclude that you are a person with good tastes when they see the work of art that holds your wine.

Regardless if you’re a serious collector of wine or just someone who enjoys the occassional bottle, you’ll find a wine rack that appeals to you artistically, pragmatically, and financially.

Some hold just a few bottles while some hold many. Some are very inexpensive while some larger ones can be much pricier. Some were obviously made first and foremost for artistic flair, while others will suit more conservative personalities.

Wine racks can be placed prominently for display — some small ones can be put right on your kitchen table — or in your pantry. Larger ones can be stored in your wine cellar if you plan to start a long term collection.

The choice of what kind of wine rack you choose will depend upon not only such factors as your personal preferences, but the space you have available.

In summary, knowing your needs and desires will help you decide which kind of wine rack is right for you.

Are Your Comfort Zones Hindering Your Business?

Filed under: World Wide Web Resources — admin @ 4:58 am

Let’s face it, there are things that we don’t always enjoy doing in our day-to-day business routines. Perhaps you are confused by accounting and have papers strewn all over your desk or stuffed in a drawer. Maybe you’re afraid to pick up the phone and call potential clients, even though you know it will result in some much-needed sales. Or you know you need to hire an assistant, but you cringe at the thought of turning over the “controls” to someone else.

All of us have the tendency to form “comfort zones” around ourselves: boundaries between what makes us feel comfortable, and uncomfortable. Comfort zones are not always bad. Sometimes they can prevent us from doing something stupid or reckless. Most often, however, our comfort zones are built on a belief that may or may not be true. If you’ve experienced a particularly painful rejection in the past, you might create a comfort zone that will prevent you from “sticking your neck out there” and being rejected again. In this case, the comfort zone itself isn’t the problem. The underlying belief that you will be rejected again is the problem.

Just because you’ve been rejected in the past does not mean you will be rejected again in the future. That particular comfort zone will cause you to act in ways that are counterproductive to your own success. You will dread approaching new clients, networking, or any type of public activity involving your business. Deep inside, part of you will be expecting to be rejected again, and you will do whatever you can to limit the possibility of that happening. Pain isn’t fun to experience, and it’s amazing how our minds will avoid it at all costs!

Maybe you’re not even aware of most of your comfort zones. Take a look at your business as it is right now. Are you making as much money as you’d like? Are you moving forward with new projects and goals without a problem? Do you love meeting new people and getting to know them? Is your business well-organized and efficient? If you answered yes to these questions, you probably aren’t being hindered in any way by your comfort zones. If you answered no to any of these questions, you might have some issues to work through.

Here is a simple way to discover if your fears are holding you back: make a list of the worst possible things you can imagine for your business. What are your deepest fears? What aspects of your business don’t you enjoy? And why? If you don’t enjoy networking, ask yourself why that is. What is the worst thing you can imagine happening regarding networking? Be honest with yourself. You don’t have to show this list to anyone.

Once you know what you are truly afraid of, ask yourself what the consequences would be if your worst fear were to be realized. And could you live with those consequences? Using the rejection example again, what would be the consequences of being rejected again? Would you be able to live with that? I think you’ll be surprised at how small most of the consequences are, and how easily we could live with them if we had to.

Fear has a way of making itself much bigger in our minds than it is in reality! We work ourselves into a sweat, terrified of the “what ifs” — when in fact, the outcome would be no big deal really. As with most other things, we’d simply pick ourselves up and continue on our way.

Once you know what your fears are, and you understand and accept the consequences, immediately do the thing you fear most. Yes, that’s right, I’m encouraging you to step out of your comfort zones! Refuse to let fear control you. Tell your fear, “Thanks for trying to protect me, but I’m going to do it anyway.” And then just do it. Then do it again. And again. The first few times you step out of your comfort zones, you WILL be uncomfortable. Expect that and accept it. Fear won’t vanish overnight. But it will go away after your mind understands that the fear is groundless.

Now, just because you conquer your fears and expand your comfort zones doesn’t mean you should become reckless either. There is a big difference between blindly leaping into the unknown and taking a calculated risk. Before acting, take a few minutes to think about the action you want to take, consider the consequences, and ask if you’re willing to accept them. If you are, go for it. If you’re not, that’s all right! Don’t feel like you have to push yourself beyond what you’d be willing to accept. You can put the issue on the back burner for awhile and reconsider it later.

The point is to stop letting fear make your business decisions, and start making them yourself. It will take some time to get used to this new way of thinking, but before long you’ll automatically begin questioning your fear and stop letting it control you. Once that happens, there is no telling the levels of success you can reach!
